VFXtra Days 26 February 2015

All pioneers are welcome to join us at one of the four locations for VFXtra on Thursday 26 February.  These days are for support, learning, sharing and prayer – an oasis for pioneers to meet and reflect together with others.  NB The Exeter venue is now The Mint Methodist Church, and the Cambridge venue is now meeting at The Michaelhouse – check the VentureFX Facebook page for more information.

Methodist Conference VentureFX and Fresh Expressions event with Ann Morisy

If you’re attending the Methodist Conference or within striking distance of London on Tuesday 9 July, you might like to go to the Conference Fringe event which VentureFX is jointly hosting with Fresh Expressions.

It’s in the Robert Perks Room at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, SW1H 9NH, starting at 8.00pm.  Main speaker is community theologian Ann Morisy, speaking on the subject: ‘The Word on the Street,’ looking at the challenges and opportunities which our culture poses to those forming fresh expressions, and the values which might underpin the engagement of faith with community.

Cambridge VFXtra, 20th June: Change of Venue.

The Cambridge VFXtra day will now be taking place at Westcott House, Jesus Lane, Cambridge rather than in Cottenham as originally advertised.

put together a fantastic day looking at ‘Pioneer Leadership’, ‘Worship in
a Fresh Expressions Context’ and ‘Evangelism and Pioneering’. There will
also be a seminar in which Pioneers from the UK will be given the
opportunity to share from their experiences with a number of pastors and
DMin students from George Fox University, US.

Places are limited to 12, so for more information and to book a place
please contact simon.oliver@cantab.net as soon as possible.

Martin Daws makes poetry at ECG

we were chuffed to be joined by the Poet Martin Daws for a couple of days at ECG a couple of weeks ago. during the Saturday evening communion gathering we worked out how we could incorporate Martin’s skills into the service and decided to frame the evening around the theme ‘one body’. led by Martin, everybody in the gathering broke off a piece of Christ’s body (clay) and moulded the first letter of a word associated to the theme ‘body’… the challenge was for martin to write a poem throughout the communion using the words people had felt.

although Martin was able to produce something in the time given during the service he had felt that he wasn’t that pleased with the results and as a true pro had to go away and dwell on the words some more. this is what he has come up with:

Struggle In my body to touch you

touch you real

so raw

broken from sickness to death

the pain of life

body of life covers womb communion

newness of being sin reborn in transience

intimacy of un-wrappings – your gift of frailty

Frail love payment Shylock made vulnerable

vulnerable Immanuel

touch tomorrow real

organic fragility

holy touch of skin

murder thought beyond beauty

thought beyond (your presence)

sacrifice mortality for mercy (in your presence)

warm juice of body caress incarnate (in your presence)

time covered physicality (in your presence)

mortal mercy being beauty (in your presence)

wholeness/hope/faith alive (in your presence)

Martin you are a legend and thanks again for your time with us earlier this month…

ECG welcome words

During the ECG conference in Scarborough in early April, the VentureFX pioneers were involved in leading a number of events in the Spa Theatre and elsewhere. Each evening they led an immersive worship experience at some point during which some words of welcome were used.  A few folk have asked if they could have a copy of those words, so here’s the link:

VFXtra

VentureFX is the Methodist Church’s scheme to promote and encourage pioneer mission among those who are not yet disciples of Jesus.  There are currently 14 VFX pioneers working in all three nations of the UK.  We recognise that there are many other people doing similar things in circuits and districts around the Methodist Church and would love to act as a resource to support all those who are on this pioneering journey in whatever context.  Gathering occasionally to share learning, conversation, prayer, experience and vision seems to be an important activity for us to engage in.  It can often be a fairly lonely path we tread and even the best supported of us may value the opportunity to journey with others who face similar challenges and opportunities.

Our hope for VFXtra is to gather in regional clusters three times a year, hosted by the VFX pioneers, and to take the opportunity to learn together, pray together and encourage one another.  There’ll be some structured input, but plenty of time for conversation and sharing.  We don’t want it to be a burden, so the invitation is to those for whom it would be helpful rather than yet another meeting to go to!  The first VFXtra day will be held simultaneously in Manchester, Birmingham and Exeter on Thursday 13 December 2012.  Details are on the attached flyer with someone to contact to book in.  For general enquiries about VFXtra people should get in touch with the VentureFX coordinator, Ian Bell at belli@methodistchurch.org.uk.
